Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge

Take on one of the UK’s most recognised endurance challenges — summiting the three highest peaks in the Yorkshire Dales in a single day. This demanding yet rewarding circular route covers approximately 38km, with over 1,500m of ascent, starting and finishing in Horton-in-Ribblesdale.

You’ll tackle Pen-y-Ghent (694m), Whernside (736m), and Ingleborough (723m) — each offering its own character, challenge, and sense of achievement. From early morning starts to the final push back into the village, this is a full-day experience that tests both physical and mental resilience.

Aiming to complete our challenge in 12 hours we set off early from Horton-in-Ribblesdale, heading first towards Pen-y-Ghent — a steady introduction before the terrain begins to open up across the Yorkshire landscape.

From there, the route leads on to Whernside, the highest of the three peaks, where the scale of the challenge becomes clear. With the longest section of the route behind you, the final ascent of Ingleborough provides one last test before the descent back to the finish.

Standing on that final summit — and later crossing the finish line — brings a real sense of achievement that stays with you long after the day is done.
